FK-UHT Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Program conducts Community Service in Sumenep, attended by the Governor of East Java

In the context of implementing one aspect of the Tri Dharma, namely community service (pengmas), the Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Medicine – Hang Tuah University (UHT) participated in providing counseling to the community at Slopeng Beach, Sumenep, Madura on June 22, 2022. This community service activity initiated by the Indonesian National Army-Navy (TNI-AL) in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry UHT and the Faculty of Dentistry, Airlangga University. In this activity, the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa was present who gave full support and appreciation for the social activities carried out. He said that this activity was based on the name of love for the homeland so that a strong partnership was established.

The counseling activity involved the academic community of the S1 Pharmacy Study Program – FK UHT from representatives of lecturers, education staff and students. The counseling focused on the themes of antibiotic use and stunting. In addition to counseling, in this community service activity, questionnaire interviews were also conducted to the community to determine public understanding regarding the use of antibiotics and stunting.

This theme is relevant to the current phenomenon, namely that there are still many people who do not know how to use antibiotics correctly. It is known from the results of interviews with several people who were present, that they did not consume the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor until they were finished and took antibiotics without consulting a doctor. “Incorrect use of antibiotics can trigger antibiotic resistance, so that infectious diseases will be difficult to treat. The public needs to receive education related to this so that they can use antibiotics rationally”, said the Head of the Pharmacy Study Program – FK UHT apt. Ana Khusnul Faizah, M. Farm. Klin. Another theme presented was about stunting. Currently, stunting is one of the government’s focuses in reducing the incidence. Reporting from Aksi.bangda.kemendagri.go.id, the prevalence of stunting in Sumenep Regency in 2022 is 3.9%. The lowest prevalence compared to the other four districts on Madura Island. However, stunting prevention efforts still need to be carried out through education and promotion. Through this community service activity, the FK – UHT Pharmacy Study Program participates in supporting the government to prevent stunting by providing education to mothers who are present at Slopeng Beach.
